WHAT WE BELIEVE.....

"We declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have   fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ" -- The First Letter of John 1:3

The Peace and Praise Fellowship of Palm Springs, California is a non-denominational, non-doctrinal faith community organized in September, 2005 for the worship of God, Christian fellowship and mission activities centered in the teachings and ministry of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  We joyfully worship and celebrate the loving presence of the one God of the Bible as revealed to us in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, and affirm a biblical world view. Therefore, we espouse no man-made doctrines, but are a confessional body of believers. In other words, we do not indoctrinate; we simply confess our faith.   Here are our basic beliefs:

        1.   The Sovereignty of God  as revealed in the Scriptures as the Creator of heaven and earth, Sustainer of the universe, and Redeemer of humankind.

        2.    The Trinity--One God in Three Persons:  Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  The Son is of the Father, and the Holy Spirit is of the Son.

        3.    The Centrality of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, personal Lord and Savior of all.  Jesus Christ bore our sins in his body on a cross that we might be dead to sin and alive to all that is good.

        4.    Justification by faith and grace alone, not by any of our own works lest any person should boast.  Faith in God and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ are the keys to open the door of abundant living and eternal life.

        5.    The Authority of the Scriptures of both the Old and New Testaments as the living Word of God.  The Bible reveals God's plan for the salvation of Humankind.  The writings of the Bible are God's love letters to you and me.

        6.    The Importance of Prayer as the pathway to God's heart, and the deliberate cultivation of a sense of the presence of God in one's daily life.

        7.    The Church as the resurrected Body of Christ--gathered for worship and fellowship and scattered to serve.  Christ is the Head of the Church and we are the hands, feet and mouth of the Lord--a community of faith to carry on the saving work of Jesus Christ.

        8.    The Work of the Holy Spirit as the 3rd Person of the Trinity, the indwelling Christ, the breath of the Risen Lord, the Comforter and Counselor, who convicts, converts and consecrates us until we are wholly given to God.  As such, the Holy Spirit is constantly at work to reform and renew the Church and our mission.

        9.    The Gifts of the Holy Spirit as outlined in I Corinthians 12, and that every believer has a gift of the Spirit to share in the work of ministry.  But the most excellent gift is the gift of love as described in I Corinthians 13, and Jesus' command to his disciples to "love one another". (John 13:34)

        10.   The Promotion of Social Justice and Peace that is biblically based and through loving, caring service in the community and in the world--all in the spirit of Christ.  See Romans 14:19

        11.   The Truth that Jesus Christ is Lord and that Christ will come again to bring in the Kingdom of God ("a new heaven and earth") and fulfill God's plan of salvation for all humankind.

        12.   The Apostles' Creed with its belief in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. We also confess the other great creeds of Christendom including the Nicene Creed.
